DIY ELECTRICAL SAFTEY CHECKLIST

• Are your switches and outlets working perfectly? 

• Are your switches/outlets giving off heat? Making noises, as in, popping, crackling, or buzzing? 

• Have you used any extension cords in the past 30 days?

• Do the extension cords have any exposed wires, cracks, frays, or any other damage? 

• Do you have any cords that are running through walls, ceilings, windows, doors, or any other place where they can be pinched or tripped over?

• Are the plugs stapled, nailed, or otherwise hung to a wall or the ceiling?

• Does the cord feel hot to the touch? 

• Have you tested your GFCIs or AFCIs in the last 30 days?

• Do all outlets in and around your kitchen and bathroom have ground fault current protection, also known as, GFCI?

• Do you have smoke detectors installed in your home?

• Have you tested your smoke alarms in the last 30 days?  

• Do you have problems with your circuit breakers tripping, fuses blowing, or outlets/switches not working properly?
